VENETO 2022
After a wonderful 2019 tour in southeast Sicily, Sue and Stefano were planning to take a small group north to Verona and the wider region of the Veneto in 2020.
As you know, the pandemic got in the way, and we’ve had to postpone to September 2022.
We’ve found a luxurious 15th century villa located in the city centre of a UNESCO-listed Renaissance village of Cison di Valmarino at the foothills of the Dolomite Mountains.

A few kilometres from us Stefano will take us to the oldest restaurant in the region, having first opened in 1470, over 200 years before Columbus sailed for the Americas and before tomatoes were brought back to Europe.

The region of the Veneto is home to the world class wines of Prosecco, Soave, Valpolicella, Amarone as well as grappa.
Stefano will stock our villa with, as usual, the best to be found for our meals in-house. He will explain each wine in detail.
We’ll also visit one of the top wineries for a tour of the vineyards, cellars and a comprehensive tasting.

The Veneto is dotted with extraordinary villas, most notably those designed by Italian Renaissance architect Andrea Palladio. We will take a day trip from Padua to Venice along the Brenta Canal as the nobility did at the height of the Venetian Republic.
There were over 3000 villas built in the Veneto between the 15th and 19th centuries when the wealthy Venetian nobility built their country houses throughout the mainland. And some of the best were built on the banks of the Brenta. We will stop and visit a few along the way.

We may also visit Villa Barbarigo near Padua with its Monumental Garden of Valsanzibio and a large maze of 450-year-old boxwood, considered one of the best baroque gardens in the world.
In the garden and adjacent 4-hectare park there are approximately 800 individual plants and trees, made up of over 100 different species. Approximately 70% of the plants found at Valsanzibio today were originally planted between 1664 and 1669.

Along with visiting markets, producers, artisans, food shops and restaurants, we will prepare meals together in the state-of-the-art kitchen back at our villa.
There’ll be a day in Venice, a late lunch at one of Stefano’s favourite restaurants on a canal in Cannaregio, the Jewish Quarter.
Stefano will be in Italy this February to scout a number of unique experiences that are a feature of our tours. This initial outline is just an indication of what we have in store for our guests.
We have had an overwhelming response with limited spots remaining, we are taking deposits now to secure your booking.
